As mentioned in last week’s bulletin Mark Anderson from Rotary Foundation together with his son Dave, Anne, a member of Beecroft Rotary Club and our club member Jaz met at Epping station on Friday, 28 September, to catch the 4.32am train at the start of their day-long adventure raising funds for the  End Polio Now campaign.

After farewelling them there I later joined 6 of our club members at Milsons Point station to both greet the travellers as they passed through the station at 8.42am and to collect donations from commuters. Whist we did manage to collect $375.00 it is perhaps a sign of the times that cash is becoming a thing of the past and raises the possibility of a “tap and go” facility being required in the future!

There was a great turn out of Rotary club members greeting the travellers as they passed through some of the of the 187 stations within the Sydney rail network during the day. The only ones to cover the whole distance were Mark, Dave and Jaz, ending their day at Cronulla around 10pm …. In excess of $240,000 was raised through this event …. very well done to all involved.

A small but dedicated team of volunteers assisted with our Bunnings BBQ on Sunday and our thanks go out to those members and friends.

Next Tuesday, 9 October our speaker will be Peter Kirkwood with his presentation - EndTrachoma by 2020 project.
