Rotary activities are broadly classified into five avenues of service.
Vocational Service
Rotary is a vocationally based organization. Its members represent their business or profession in Rotary and in turn are advocates of Rotary to their present or former business or profession. Rotarians are selected for their leadership qualities and their ability to practice the ideals of Rotary. We encourage excellence in all vocations by recognising outstanding individuals with “Pride of Workmanship” and “Small Business” awards and other Vocational Excellence awards.
Community Service
Rotary’s motto is “Service above Self” and Rotarians are always concerned for the underprivileged, the ill and the disabled, many of whom benefit from over 50,000 Rotary service projects throughout the world each year.
Our Rotary Club either raises funds or provides “hands on support” for a variety of community based charities, projects and special needs which bring us into closer touch with our own community.
International Service
Our Club is part of the enormous strength which more than 27,000 Rotary Clubs can mobilise. Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign has raised over $320 million and has an army of volunteers with the common objective of completely eradicating polio from the world by the year 2008.
Youth Service
We have a strong commitment to youth and support a number of important activities and projects.
Each year we sponsor local students to attend national science schools and youth leadership seminars.
Club Service
This involves the well being of all members, Club organisation and the enjoyable social aspects of Rotary.
Excellent guest speakers, presentations from members, visits to and from other clubs and friendly, enjoyable social functions are all part of the fabric of Rotary.
